Local Food Events this Month

We are looking forward to our upcoming growing season. In this blog post, you’ll find information about plant sales, seed exchanges, and other local food events happening in the Wood River Valley and beyond! Check out this page for more upcoming events.

Earth Day Fest

Hailey, Idaho Earth Day fest is coming up, hosted by Climate Action Coalition of the Wood River Valley

Climate Action Coalition of the Wood River Valley’s Earth Day Fest is coming to Hailey on April 20, 10 am to 2 pm at Hailey Town Center West (116 S. River St.) and 3-5 pm at Balmoral/Kiwanis Park (2037 Briarwood Dr). Join in for a 5k road race, music, games, raffles, and food! This year’s Earth Fest theme is “Circularity: reducing, reusing, and re-purposing.” Stop by the Sun Valley Institute for Resilience booth from 10 am to 2 pm to learn all about zero- and low-waste cooking!

In addition to Earth Day Fest activities, the Upper Big Wood River Grange and the Wood River Seed Exchange will be hosting an Earth Day Plant Sale and Exchange on April 20th from 10 am to 1 pm at the Grange Hall, 609 3rd Ave., Hailey – the same location as the Hailey Winter Farmers Market! Inside, shop for fresh local products; outside on the lawn, pick up plants and seeds for your garden!

Squash Blossom Farm Plant Sale

Squash Blossom Farm is holding their annual plant starts sale now!

Squash Blossom Farm’s annual plant sale is going on now. This is one of our most anticipated local food events of the year! Start your garden with robust, thriving plants adapted to the Wood River Valley environment. They have over 70 varieties of tomatoes, peppers, herbs, squash, greens, and more. New for this year, they are offering onion starter packs. Pick-up dates are May 18th at the farm in Bellevue and June 1st at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden. Order your starts here.

Seed Starting Workshop

The Hunger Coalition in Bellevue, Idaho is hosting a Seed starting workshop

Kickstart your growing season. Learn how to start your seeds indoors at this workshop hosted by The Hunger Coalition on April 22 from 5-7 pm at the greenhouse, 110 Honeysuckle Dr. in Bellevue. This hands-on experience will teach you everything you need to know. Supplies are included, but bring seeds if you have them. This is a free event, but please register by calling the Hunger Coalition at (208) 788- 0121 or emailing Melanie at mweber@thehungercoalition.org.

Winter Farmers Market Continues

Hailey Idaho winter farmers market continues, a local food event in the Wood River Valley

Butchery Classes

Six Creeks Mercantile, local food events in Glenns Ferry Idaho.

The Six Creeks Mercantile is a bit of a drive from the Wood River Valley, but we think its worth it to check out this great new store focused on handcrafted and local foods in the heart of Glenns Ferry. They are partnering with FARE Idaho to host two Saturday beef butchery classes.

June 22 – Offal – Using All of the Animal
July 20 – Beef Butchery
