Our program, 5B Resilient, is starting a movement of student-led composting efforts in the Wood River Valley. In partnership with local schools, we help students educate their peers on composting procedures and the reasons to compost. At the end of every lunch period food scraps are collected and weighed. So far this year, students at the two participating schools have diverted over 1,400 pounds of food waste from the landfill to compost!
The composting curriculum increases climate literacy and action for over 500 youth in the Wood River Valley! Students are learning about the interconnectedness of our soil, food systems, and climate. Our organization is excited to be leading this effort. Stay tuned to hear more about future programs!
