Last week, the Trailing of the Sheep Festival held its annual fundraiser, Starry Starry Night, at the Argyros Performing Arts Center in Ketchum. Our team works closely with the Festival to source locally produced food for this fundraising event and the larger Festival in October. We were excited to see local produce from Grand Teton Lamb, Southern Idaho Culinary Mushrooms, Squash Blossom Farm, and Waterwheel Gardens and baked goods from Atkinsons’ Market on the menu last week. The fundraiser helps ensure Trailing of the Sheep can continue to celebrate our region’s agricultural heritage.
About Trailing of the Sheep
Trailing of the Sheep is a vibrant festival held annually in early October throughout the Wood River Valley. The Festival celebrates the region’s agricultural heritage, with a focus on the history and importance of sheep ranching. A diverse array of activities awaits festival goers including a historic sheep drive through Main St., Ketchum, a historic sheep driveway. Attendees enjoy cultural experiences from live music to artisan crafts, and lamb-centered culinary delights.
Local Food Focused Events
A highlight of the festival is the focus on lamb cookery. Local chefs offer classes on preparation techniques and farm to table dinners serve up the best cuts from area sheep ranchers. Be sure to check out the Trailing of the Sheep website for available classes and events. Cooking classes with Chef Steven Kammerer of Ramen Cowboy, Chef Mary Clare, and Chef Sydney Liepshutz and a cheese-making class with Kendall Russel are still available. Tickets are also available for the October 1st and October 2nd farm-to-table dinners. These events will sell out, so it is best to get your tickets early.
